the Nexxtech is a nogo then.
I live in a small town so its not likely I will be able to buy a null-modem cable locally.
Staples and the Source do not stock them.
I am sure the cable(s) that came with the FTA's are not going to show up now. Grrr!
I will have to shop on the net.
I was hoping to get everything up and running before the Fri. deadline for the Rockets trial.
Thanks once again for everyone who gave advice.
Heading back to the source to get my 50 bux refunded.

I thought you wrote that you had a un-known usb/serial adapter... All you need to do is google a generic driver.
If the gender bender is not molded, take it apart and you can swap the pins and make a null modem. Google "rs-232 pinout". I don't think the interface is a "Full - up" 232 interface. It may very well work by just swapping pins 2 and 3 (on one side)..... Worse come to worse you have to swap two other pins (RTS and CTS). But I don't think so. Generally they use x on / x off...

Really not hard to do. (a pin extractor helps) but you CAN do it with a decent dental pick.

Even if I get a driver from Nexxtech this still is not a null cable?

The usb to serial is most likely a rs232 and not a rs232c(null modem). You should be able to use the cable that cane with the receiver. The gender bender is a device that changes a cable fron m/f to f/m but may also be a null modem(rs232c) adapter called a gender bender.

Thanks TMac. It is a Nexxtech 2608042A with a male connector. I went to their website and saw a driver with this ser nr. 2608042PC. Do you think this is the correct one?
Also the adapter is molded so I am going out to talk to a techie at Intelligent Choice computers.
I still might beat the Fri deadline.
Elated this a.m. when a spotted the free trial.
Had all the files ready on the desktop. Thought that when the old lady came hme this evening I would point to the Nf Pro and say Ta-da.
She would think it was PFM and that I was the magician.

Thanx Rocky. I hope he now knows what he needs.

The OP bought a Gender Bender thinking it was a Null Modem. I have a box full of all kinds of them but they will do him no good. Plus many times I still needed something and would just make it with my BoB (break out Box). The one he bought was straight through.

The usb to serial devices are async RS-232- EIA-232 - DTE (DE-9).
I think mine only supports part of the standard (cts/rts-dsr/dtr) plus grnd and the two data pins txd/rxd. The cabling CAN be rs-232c depending upon whether or not they are nulled.

He said he knew that he needs a null cable and didn't have the original cable..

That all seems like a good plan.... If the driver does not work, try another.
    You'll get it.
    Have fun good luck

You can get a usb to serial adapter in a computer store, Bestbuy, compusa, or just go the Ebay route!
